Josh Brookes says he's disappointed to lose out to Shane Byrne for pole position by 0.001s in qualifying and felt his tyre degradation hampered his final lap during qualifying.

The Milwaukee Yamaha rider blames mistakes in his opening flying laps for not giving him a stronger base to build upon and the life in his Pirelli tyres was shot by the time he attempted his make-or-break lap.

"I got one last lap together and I felt smooth and fast but the tyre wasn't at its best," Brookes said. "Four or five laps in it wasn't ideal. I'm quite pleased with the lap time but obviously disappointed to get second. It still puts us in a good position for tomorrow.
