Oulton Park International: Easton: I couldn't give up

After just seven weeks on from his horror crash at Brands Hatch Stuart Easton says he's ready to return to secure his BSB Showdown spot.
Stuart Easton says he's done everything in his power to be fighting fit for Oulton Park as he aims to secure himself a place in the MCE British Superbike Showdown.

The PBM Kawasaki rider suffered a nasty crash in race one of round six at Brands Hatch in July, breaking his lower left leg and right ankle. Due to the injuries the Scottish rider has missed the last three rounds; Brands Hatch where a sustained the injury, Thruxton and Cadwell Park but still holds a Showdown spot with just the triple-header remaining at Oulton Park before the season finale begins.

Despite his absence in the past six races Easton holds a 34-point advantage over his closest rival outside of the Showdown places, Dan Linfoot in seventh.

“I have been so focused on Oulton Park as that always had to be my goal, because the Showdown is still there and I couldn't give up on it until I had tried everything to be there,” Easton said. “A couple of weeks ago I thought it wouldn't be possible but I am now really positive that I can ride.”

Easton admits it is going to be a tough ask to be competitive so soon after his crash but says he'll give it his all to stay inside the top six.

If the Scottish rider is able to secure a Showdown spot it would be remarkable achievement considering he was a major doubt to be able to return to action before the end of the season in July.

“There is obviously a big difference between riding and racing for a top ten finish in BSB, I know that,” Easton added. "If it was just down to will alone I would make the Showdown because I have done everything possible to come back to Oulton Park and make it happen.

"It is a big ask, but it certainly won't be through the want of trying if we don't make it.”

What may work in Easton's favour is BSB's return to Oulton Park, a circuit where he claimed victory back in May when the track hosted the third round of the 2015 championship.
