TT Circuit Assen: 'Weekend to forget' for bruised Bridewell

Tommy Bridewell has called his results in Assen close to the worst possible start to the Showdown as his title ambitions took a heavy blow.
Tommy Bridewell has called his results in Assen close to the worst possible start to the Showdown after struggling to eighth place in race one before suffering a nasty high-side crash in race two.

The Tyco BMW rider has been left exasperated by his Showdown opener and was at a loss for answers to his lack of race pace which forced him to over work the bike, resulting in a crash in slippery conditions in the second race.

“It is almost the worst start to a Showdown you could hope for,” Bridewell said. “It's just been one of those weekends that I'd like to forget. The team is doing everything that they can and we just are not as strong as we need to be. I am pushing beyond the limit that I should be and I should back it off but as soon as we race I just can't give less than 110%.”

The Wiltshire rider had arrived in the Netherlands full of optimism after receiving a new BMW swing arm but he failed to gel with the firmer feeling and reverted back to the swing arm he used at Oulton Park.

Bridewell has a mountain of a mission to fight back in the Showdown after slipping to fifth in the standings. Coupled with BSB championship leader Josh Brookes' two wins in Assen, he now trails by 88 points while falling eight points behind his team-mate Michael Laverty in fourth.

Despite his nightmare at Aseen, Bridewell insists he is remaining optimistic as the season shifts to its conclusion.

"On the bright we scored points and Michael Laverty has an eight-point gap on me which is nothing, but, we all want to win," he said. "We just have to keep working to be more consistent.

"We still have five races left to show what we are capable of and as I said on the run up to Assen, anything less than podiums are not good enough at this stage of the year.”

bernyec: how many races now, and how many times he has binned it,, failed to finish,, got to be 50%, a couple of guys waiting in the wings i think. Seeley being one of them
Yeah, coz Seeley has done really well in the past when he has stepped up in class. Next you will be suggesting Kuba coz he's ex GP or Kiyo because he woz good once. Look at his results, 3rd last year in the championship, currently 5th, and a new bike for the Tyco team therefore they have no base settings. Silverstone will probably be a struggle as well due this.
