John Hopkins says his first podium finish of the year is the least his Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati team deserve after a difficult season.

The 2011 British Superbike championship runner-up has demonstrated on multiple occasions in 2015 that the Ducati has had the raw pace to fight at the front but a series of mechanical and rider faults have prevented the team from producing its true potential.

In race one of the season finale at Brands Hatch Hopkins got an excellent drive off the start line to take third place and despite being unable to challenge the front two of Josh Brookes and Shane Byrne the American is thrilled to see the Ducati home for a maiden podium finish.

"It was a long time coming and nice to get the monkey off our pack," Hopkins said. "Ever since joining Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati we've been pushing for a podium and at Thruxton we thought we had it but we were a bit unlucky and I made a mistake.

"We got a good start, I put it around the outside at turn one and we were right there following Josh and Shane bashing each other up. I was hoping when Josh got around Shane I could chase him down and make a break with him but I was at the limit, spinning the rear tyre and sliding the front tyre. After all the hard work the team put in it has great to reward them with the podium."

Hopkins also paid tribute to new champion Josh Brookes after the Milwaukee Yamaha rider clinched the riders' title with victory.

"Well done to Josh too, doing it all year long and killing it. I'm really happy for him to finally clinch the title."
