Halsall Racing retains Suzuki support

Halsall Racing has announced it will continue its partnership with Suzuki next season in BSB after a productive first year together.
Halsall Racing has announced it will continue its partnership with Suzuki next season in the MCE British Superbike championship after a productive first year working together.

This season Halsall Racing, running under the banner of Bennetts, secured backing from Suzuki GB after Hector Neill's TAS Racing ditched the Japanese manufacturer for BMW.

In 2016, the team will retain both Bennetts as title sponsor and Suzuki's GSX-R1000 bikes in a two-rider squad in BSB.

Halsall Racing team owner Martin Halsall says he's thrilled to continue the work started with Suzuki despite 'plenty of challenges' during 2015, which saw the squad split from former team manager Jack Valentine.

“We're delighted we'll be able to continue working together with Suzuki GB and the GSX-R1000 again in 2016, after a solid first year together this year,” Halsall said. “It was a year with plenty of challenges, but we always expected that, working with what was a new bike for us for the first time. But we took plenty of positives and went from strength to strength, and we're looking forward to next year and challenging more consistently at the very front."

Suzuki's participation in the 2016 World Superbike championship is still under threat after Paul Denning's Crescent squad switched to become the factory-backed Yamaha squad in the international series and concerns were heightened when the manufacturer made no reference to its WSBK commitments at its 2016 bike launches in Milan last week.

Despite these concerns, Suzuki GB's marketing manager Rob Cooper says it is committed to support Halsall Racing in BSB next year.

"Racing is a huge part of our history at Suzuki, and the British Superbike championship is arguably the best domestic racing series in the world and one that we're incredibly proud to be a part of,” Cooper said. “We're very pleased to extend our partnership with Martin and the Halsall Racing team for next season, and look forward to building on the foundations that were laid down in 2015."

The Bennetts Suzuki team also confirmed it will announce its rider line-up for 2016 in the coming weeks.

I think is a good choice that they are sticking with the GSXR for another year, Iddon was up the sharp end at the end of the season and should continue into 2016, with the new bike arriving soon that might be a game changer as well, at least it is another manufacturer on the grid. From looking at the lap times TAS to Halsall I would say Halsall improved the lap times at almost all the race tracks, so even though without the huge experience of TAS, Halsall seem to have done a great job dragging the lap time out of what everybody knows is a very old design. I wish them good luck in 2016.

To me Halsall seems to be a team that chops and changes too much - both riders and bikes. If this is part of a long term strategy where there is a new GSXR coming out soon then fair enough but if it's just short term then it's difficult to see the Suzuki troubling the podium. If the hugely experienced TAS couldn't make it work then I think a more opportunistic team like Halsall will have problems.
