Filip Backlund has been announced as the second rider in the Quattro Plant Kawasaki line-up for the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship and will team-mate 2015 BSB Riders' Cup winner Luke Mossey.
The Swedish rider spent the 2015 BSB campaign with Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki, claiming a handful of points finishes with a highlight of eighth place in race two at Snetterton.
Backlund joins the already announced Mossey to make up the Bournemouth-based squad's BSB charge – running under the Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki banner – and is thrilled to secure his second consecutive full season in BSB with Pete Extance's squad.
“I'm really delighted to be part of the Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki team for 2016,” Backlund said. “I have known Pete and his crew since my first season here in the UK in 2013. I have always had an eye on their good work, so for me to be part of that team now feels great.
“After my first year in BSB, our aim is to always fight inside the top ten, and where possible, try and put ourselves in the top six. I'm a racer and will always want to win – that is my goal and nothing can change that.”
Quattro Plant Kawasaki is expanding its racing commitments by also entering the British Supersport series and the British Sidecar championship.
The Bournemouth-based squad has signed Ulsterman and Supersport race-winner Andy Reid for its one-bike attack in the middle class, while taking on 2015 British Sidecar champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood.
The team has also retain James Hillier for the Road Racing events at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT. The Quattro Plant Muc-Off squad will also be the official entrant of Kawasaki UK for the 2016 roads season.
Team principal Extance says he expects a frantic 2016 season but is confident his team as the resources to match his targets.
“2016 is going to be a hectic and hopefully successful season, with a third solo rider announced in the form of Andy Reid in the British Supersport class, as well as the Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki sidecar crew,” Extance said. “The sidecar crew will be self-contained, as per 2015, but will be part of the Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki team.
“It's our first attempt at Supersport and we are really looking forward to working with Andy and hopefully putting him at the sharp end from the opening round, and ultimately pushing for the Supersport crown.
“In BSB, Luke has settled well within our team and we really feel he has the potential to push at the front all season, which is an exciting prospect for us all. Filip has a lot to offer and we feel with good set up and a top crew around him, he will show his true potential in 2016.”
The team is set to kick off 2016 with pre-season testing in Spain in the new year ahead of the official BSB tests next Spring.
