Iddon thrilled to jump on Tyco BMW 'rocketship'

Christian Iddon says he couldn't turn down the offer of joining Tyco BMW and is relishing the chance of jumping on to the BMW S1000RR which he has described as a 'rocketship'.

At the Motorcycle Live show at Birmingham's NEC it was announced that Iddon and Tommy Bridewell would be swapping teams as Bridewell completed the new look Bennetts Suzuki squad alongside three-time BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari.

Despite the deal being completed later than the Stockport rider anticipated, he knew he didn't need much convincing to sign for Philip Neill's squad having been an admirer of Tyco BMW throughout the year.

“It is one of the longest-standing teams in BSB and they are so well respected,” Iddon said. “As a team they go about things in a very good way and I really respect that. Then there is the bikes.

“There are plenty of BMWs on the grid and there is a reason for that and I have been battling around a lot of them in 2015 so I know how good they look so I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels.”

Switching from Suzuki to BMW machinery Iddon is expecting the German manufacturer's impressive deployment of power to be a tool he hopes to exploit as he aims grab a maiden BSB podium.

“I am expecting to find a rocketship!” He said. “I do know that the engine is one of its strongest points and I've spoken a lot to Michael Laverty about the bike and how it runs. Everything that he says is positive.

“Michael won the last race of the year to get on the bike that won the last race shows that the package so it is already at a good level. The team are still pushing to fine tune the package and keep developing.”

Iddon finished the 2015 BSB championship 10th in the riders' standings and top Suzuki rider having scored points in all but seven races – with the highlight of two fourth places at Silverstone and Brands Hatch respectively.

I think he's put himself into the top tier of riders after his brilliant season on the Suzuki. It just goes to show that even if you get a less than perfect ride, if you're good, you can still show the right people what you can do. I'll be very interested in how much I can get him for in the MCN fantasy road race game!
