After a difficult 2014 with Tyco Suzuki the popular American rider and 2011 BSB runner-up failed to secure a ride for the start of the 2015 season which left a noticeable gap in the paddock during the opening rounds.

However, an opportunity sprung open at Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati after Jakub Smrz suffered a broken wrist at Snetterton and Hopkins duly returned to BSB midway through the year at Brands Hatch.

The former MotoGP and World Superbike rider instantly proved the Ducati's pace by finishing in sixth place on his maiden outing with the team while also demonstrating he'd lost none of his talent.

Unfortunately for Hopkins the sixth place was a slight false dawn as he was continually hit by mechanical faults as well as crashes of his own which meant he failed to finish in seven of the subsequent eight races.

After a frustrating three rounds spent getting on top of the issues, Hopkins produced four top-five finishes at the end of the year, with the highlight of a return to the podium in race one of the season finale at Brands Hatch.

Having missed the first half of the year and failing to score a single point in three straight rounds, it naturally reflected in his final BSB riders' standings as Hopkins ended the year 17th overall.

But what Hopkins did produce with his limited opportunity impressed former title rival Tommy Hill enough for him to sign up the American to join his new THM ePayMe Yamaha squad for 2016.

About the vote:
Rather than repeat the Riders' British Championship standings, the BSB Rider of the Year poll asks viewers to take into account factors such as machinery, performance relative to a team-mate, riding style, experience, injuries, progress and personality just as much as race results and scoring each of the top twenty from this year's BSB standings with a mark out of ten.
