Danny Buchan has hailed his first pre-season test with Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati as 'refreshing' and feels it has plenty more to produce before the start of the 2016 MCE British Superbike season.
The former National Superstock 1000 champion has enjoyed his first laps on the race-specification Ducati Panigale 1199 R at a two-day test at Portimao alongside fellow BSB challengers Be Wiser PBM's Shane Byrne and Glenn Irwin and World Superbike squad Aruba.it Ducati with Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano.
The 22-year-old, who ended 2015 competing for PBM on Kawasaki machinery, feels uplifted by his instant impressions with the Ducati and is certain the team has set solid foundations for the upcoming winter tests ahead of the BSB season opener at Silverstone in early April.
"We have had two really good days here in Portimao and I am leaving here happy with how it has gone,” Buchan said. “It has been great spending time with the Ducati teams and I have been able to do so many laps and that was important for me.
"I had a good feeling of the Ducati when I did the practice laps before and the race bike is even better – it's faster, handles even better and now we have a good idea on what we can do next and it has been a refreshing start to the season. I feel like we still have more in the bag, so I feel happy.
“I feel that we can leave this test feeling that we are right where we need to be; there is more to come from me, the bike and the team still but we have been competitive and have done a good job.”
Having spent the past few seasons on Kawasaki machinery, Buchan is set to debut on Ducati machinery in BSB this year with Lloyds British Moto Rapido who achieved its maiden BSB rostrum with John Hopkins at last year's Brands Hatch season finale.
