Be Wiser PBM Ducati provides fresh motivation for Byrne

Shane Byrne says the switch to Ducati machinery with Be Wiser PBM has acted as 'fresh motivation and a new challenge' for him and the team.
Shane Byrne says the switch to Ducati machinery with Be Wiser PBM has acted as fresh motivation for both him and the team.

The four-time MCE British Superbike champion has pulled the wraps off his new PBM Ducati with the Be Wiser title sponsorship at a team launch in London. Byrne says he's overjoyed with how the bike looks, with a new striking red livery in accordance with the Italian manufacturer's famous colours, and is also thrilled with how the Panigale has been performing during pre-season testing in Portugal.

“It is nice to finally have it out there, I saw the bike for the first time yesterday as a full superbike so I was pretty excited to get it out there for everyone,” Byrne told Crash.net. “I think the bike looks absolutely wicked, certainly from the limited riding we've done already it has come on leaps and bounds and remarkably good out of the box. But if it won for looks it would be a winner already.”

Byrne switches from Kawasaki to Ducati machinery in 2016, the factory he claimed his first two BSB titles with, and believes the change will reinvigorate his hunt for a fifth championship after finishing runner-up last year.

“It took a five minute chat with Paul to understand that we both wanted to do something a little bit different but both wanted to work together,” he said. “This is a perfect compromise by both working together but both have fresh motivation and a new challenge.”

Byrne, new team-mate Glenn Irwin and PBM will now digest the data and information gained for its opening winter tests in Europe before heading back out to Spain for further tests before the BSB season-opener at Silverstone on the 8-10 April.

The Be Wiser PBM Ducati rider also says getting the bike up to speed for the opener is his only concern between now and early April and says he never pays any attention to what his rivals in BSB get up to.

“I never look [at rivals], I always just focus on myself and do the best job you can,” he explained. “I've heard the guys talk about pressure on Glenn but he's putting the most pressure on himself and that is the same for me. Looking anywhere else is completely irrelevant so I will focus on myself and fighting towards the front and getting the back of this bike the only bit anyone else gets to see of it!”
