Christian Iddon says he's ready to hit the ground running with new team Tyco BMW in preparation for the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship.
The 31-year-old switches from Bennetts Suzuki to Tyco BMW for the new season, with Tommy Bridewell heading in the opposite direction, and is hungry to get pre-season testing underway as he aims to get to grips with the BMW S1000RR.
The Stockport-based rider says he's off for some winter preparation with MotoGP star Eugene Laverty, brother of new team-mate Michael, before flying to Spain to commence testing.
“I'm going out to stay with Eugene Laverty at his house late February for a week to do a bit of training and cycling,” Iddon said. “That for me will be a nice and relaxing time out of work. Then home for four days then head back out to Cartagena and Almeria to test with the team.
“The physical training is part and parcel and already been going but the transition into the race season will start when I go out to see Eugene.
“I went out to see the team last week and the bike is pretty much good to go aside from a couple of tweaks which they have been asking me about. Handlebar position things like that to get comfortable before we go out to Spain.”
During the winter Iddon has been working with close friends at a building construction site to keep his mind busy and his body sharp and feels the work keeps him grounded for the season ahead.
“It is why I do it [to keep busy],” he explained. “I enjoy it and I know I don't need to do it because I am looked after by the team. It is something that keeps your mind occupied through the winter because it is a long time off and I don't know what I would be doing. For me it gives me a good routine and when we come into the race season it will get toned down quite a lot.
“For a training as well it works. If we get a delivery of a six-pack of blocks, 72 blocks in a pack, 20kg a block and some you have to move a few times that adds up. After that you don't need to do anything more because you know you've had a good day. So once I get into the season that is my holiday time!”
