Honda confident of race pace gains

The Honda Racing trio of Dan Linfoot, Jason O'Halloran and Jenny Tinmouth have all left their first pre-season test in Spain beaming after an all-Fireblade test at Monteblanco.

The BSB challengers joined up with the Honda Racing roads outfit, Honda Endurance and the British Superstock squads in Spain where Havier Beltran's team was reunited to its full complement. The trio focused on new engine and chassis settings and produced strong gains in lap times as a result.

Linfoot, who took Honda's challenge into the BSB Showdown last year, says all the updates have been positive and feels it has made consistent improvements over race simulations.

“I've really enjoyed being back on the Fireblade these last few days at Monteblanco it's great to see the guys hard work preparing the bikes over the winter is paying off,” Linfoot said. “We're leaving here in a much better position compared to last year, the changes we have made have improved the CBR in quite a big way over the race simulations.”

For O'Halloran it was the first time he returned to track action with his race-specification Fireblade since recovering from his leg break last season and is confident Honda has uncovered a competitive package which only requires fine-tuning ahead of the 2016 season opener at Silverstone in April.

“We've had really positive days on track this week, with countless amounts of new settings and ideas from my team,” O'Halloran said. “I'm really pleased with where we've ended up with the Fireblade. I feel comfortable and it's only my first time on the Superbike since my injury, but I feel in great shape and feel like I could go to Silverstone tomorrow and be competitive.”

Finally, Tinmouth says she's thrilled after slashing her lap times at Monteblanco using the improved bike settings and keen to push on at the team's second Spanish test at Almeria later this week.

“I'm feeling confident on the Fireblade and I've been more consistent with my laps as well as a lot faster than last year, which I'm really chuffed with,” Tinmouth said. “It's been fantastic to work through different chassis changes on the bike, which I didn't really get the opportunity to do when we were here last year.”
