O’Halloran hunts podium on comeback trail

Jason O'Halloran says Honda Racing has improved its bike during the period he was out with injury and is aiming for rostrums on his competitive comeback in the MCE British Superbike championship.

The Australian's 2015 campaign was cruelly cut short after he suffered a crash in qualifying at Thruxton in which he sustained a broken leg and left hand. The Australian had been holding a top six Showdown spot before his injury and was in fine form having taken a maiden BSB rostrum a few weeks before his crash at Snetterton.

After pre-season tests in Spain coupled with a full test day at Silverstone and Donington Park, O'Halloran is elated that the Fireblade has enjoyed significant gains during his absence and is certain he can fight for podiums in the 2016 season opener next weekend.

“The body is feeling really good, I've had a lot of rehab and physio and we are back on it now,” O'Halloran said. “We've had some really good testing in Spain and two days here in the UK and everything has gone fantastic.

“I feel we are in a better position than last year and I think we are ready to get going now with racing and see where we end up. It is nice to end up back in that top five group where we were before I got injured last year so it nice to be back there and looking forward to the season ahead.”

O'Halloran ended the final pre-season test session fourth quickest, albeit with a number of teams choosing to sit out the test, and believes podiums at Silverstone are realistic but is intrigued to discover the BSB grid's full potential.

“We are aiming for the podiums straightaway,” he added. “After what we have done today I think it is realistic that we can be in that group for sure. It is a tough championship with a lot of good guys with a lot of experience so although over a race it is different but we are ready to fight for it and I'm sure we can get there.”
