Silverstone: Fastest Iddon thrilled to make new boss happy

Christian Iddon has shown no signs of nerves on his competitive Tyco BMW debut and is delighted to put a smile on new boss Philip Neill after topping the timesheet on Friday at Silverstone.

After switching to the Moneymore-based squad during the winter Iddon has shown positive signs during pre-season testing of immediately adapting to the BMW S1000RR and duly backed it up by going fastest on Friday free practice at the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship in tricky conditions.

Iddon, who set a 2m 06.617s to hold the fastest lap from Luke Mossey, says despite the limited running time he enjoyed after a delayed FP1 he's found a solid set-up with his bike but won't be getting carried away with his free practice form.

“A mixed day with a real boring start, everyone was itching to get out and all excited like the first day of school but you can't go and play in the playground which was frustrating,” Iddon said. “As we lost time in the first session we had a lot to try in the second session and because the lap is so long it is very hard to do a number of runs.

“We tried a new rear setting which was okay so we are going to run with it, then we threw a new tyre in at the end of the session. We will analyse tonight what we've done and lap time-wise it looks like a good step because we are very close to what we did at the test in worse conditions.

“It is only Friday on the first round and it wasn't a perfect session so let's not get too excited. It is nice to P1 a session and lovely to welcome to the team. The boss has just got off a flight to the track and is happy but we can't not get ahead of ourselves as it is Friday we'll keep working on and enjoy it.”

Iddon will now focus on setting the bike up for a qualifying ahead of the introduction of the new format which sees the final nine riders head into a single-lap shootout, previously seen in World Superbikes and also currently used in the World Touring Car Championship and Formula E.
