Michael Laverty has topped the timesheet in the opening session at the in-season test at Oulton Park despite suffering a small tumble which forced a premature ending to the morning.
The Tyco BMW rider, who claimed victory in the 2016 curtain raiser at Silverstone, enjoyed a late blast of quick laps to go top with a 1m 36.324s before crashing at Lodge corner with just under five minutes remaining.
His off forced a red flag and with only a few minutes left the session was ended early after the Northern Irish rider was declared okay following his fall.
As the British Superbike riders got up to speed at Oulton Park alongside the Superstock 1000 championship riders – with the sessions open to 1000cc machinery – Bennetts Suzuki's Ryuichi Kiyonari set the early pace.
Peter Hickman, winner of race two at the Silverstone season opener two weeks ago, also enjoyed a brief stint at the top of the timesheet before Luke Mossey and Richard Cooper chipped the quickest times down into the 1m 36s bracket.
Cooper claimed second on the timesheet for Buildbase BMW ahead of Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Mossey with Hickman in fourth.
Kiyonari rounded out the top five ahead of former team-mate Lee Jackson with the second Tyco BMW of Christian Iddon two-tenths of a second further back. Honda Racing's Jason O'Halloran narrowly grabbed eighth ahead of Tommy Bridewell as the second Honda machine of Dan Linfoot rounded out the top ten.
