Oulton Park: Laverty: Oulton Park acts as good benchmark

Michael Laverty feels if he can compete for podiums and wins at Oulton Park he will have the pace for race wins at any of the circuits on the BSB calendar.

The Tyco BMW rider enjoyed a strong start to his 2016 MCE British Superbike campaign at Silverstone by claiming a win in race one before suffering a small issue in race two which dropped him down to sixth place after battling for the lead.

During the in-season test at Oulton Park Laverty was able to refine the BMW S1000RR package further and felt he could have produced the quickest time of the day had it not been for traffic on his final flyers.

The former MotoGP rider, who admits the Cheshire track is his weakest on the calendar, believes if he can challenge like he did at Silverstone then he can maintain the pace at the remaining tracks the national series visits.

“I was consistently top three in last week's test at Oulton Park, which is the toughest circuit on the calendar for me,” Laverty said. “I always said that if I could be competitive there, it would be a good benchmark, as I know I can be fighting for the wins at all other circuits.

“I was even disappointed not to come out of the test fastest, which for me was down to traffic on the circuit, but we have a good set-up on the Tyco BMW and the biggest obstacle this weekend for everyone is going to be the weather.”
