Christian Iddon has continued to seriously impress with Tyco BMW by topping Friday practice at Oulton Park while race winner from the season opener Peter Hickman's afternoon session was prematurely cut short with a technical problem.

The local rider jumped to the top of the timesheet in the opening stages of the afternoon session and despite improvements from Luke Mossey and Richard Cooper he maintained his top spot as the chequered flag fell, eventually heading the field by just 0.028s from Mossey.

The FP2 session was temporarily red flagged halfway through after Hickman stopped with at Druids with a technical problem.

The race winner from the season opener, who had jumped up to fourth with his best lap of the weekend before stopping, had been suspected of dropping oil in sectors three and four and the circuit was duly inspected for safety reasons before the session was allowed to resume.

After a short delay the session restarted, albeit without the fastest newcomer to the Isle of Man TT as his squad investigated the issue, with the majority of riders focus on race set-up.

As the session entered the final 10 minutes riders shifted focus on to outright lap pace with one eye on qualifying, with Iddon leading proceedings as the times began to match those set during last week's in-season test despite cooler conditions.

The flurry of late flyers kept Iddon top ahead of Mossey and Cooper as Alastair Seeley made a late rise on the RAF Reserves BMW to take fourth.

Tommy Bridewell enjoyed a strong session for Bennetts Suzuki to take fifth ahead of Cooper's team-mate Lee Jackson and Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati's Danny Buchan. John Hopkins continued to refine the ePayMe Yamaha package in eight as James Ellison and Dan Linfoot completed the top ten.

After missing the second half of the afternoon Hickman slipped to 14th behind Glenn Irwin, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Michael Laverty with FP1 timesheet topper Shane Byrne rounding out the top 15.
