Michael Laverty has shot under the lap record at Knockhill to finish quickest on Friday practice just four-hundredths of a second ahead of Shane Byrne.
Peter Hickman set the early pace by ducking under Mossey's top time from FP1 as conditions dried up sufficiently from a midway rain downpour. Mossey regained his top spot with a 48.280s which held station until the flurry of late flyers.
Laverty duly surfaced to the top spot with a 48.009s – under the 2015 pole time set by Byrne – as he held off the four-time BSB champion by just 0.036s. Less than two-tenths covered the top three with Leon Haslam grabbing third on his JG Speedfit Kawasaki.
FP1 topper Mossey was forced to settle for fourth ahead of the rapidly-improving John Hopkins on the ePayMe Yamaha. Honda's Dan Linfoot held his position from the opening session in sixth from Hickman as Christian Iddon, Jason O'Halloran and Richard Cooper completed the top ten.
Top rookie Glenn Irwin on the Be Wiser Ducati continued to impress with 11th ahead of James Ellison and the fit-again Ryuichi Kiyonari on the Bennetts Suzuki, narrowly ahead of local hero Stuart Easton.
