Jason O'Halloran heads the MCE British Superbike field despite a late tumble at Snetterton while young guns Danny Buchan and Luke Mossey maintain their presence at the sharp end during Friday's free practice.

The Honda Racing rider, who claimed two podiums at the Norfolk circuit last year, once again demonstrated his abilities at the track by topping the afternoon timesheet with a 1m 48.212s.

After suffering a fall in the last minute of the session at Agostini and seeing a last-lap improvement for Buchan, O'Halloran held on to the quickest time by one-tenth of a second ahead of Buchan, with fastest rider from the damp morning session Mossey in third.

JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Peter Hickman ghosted up to fourth quickest ahead of Be Wiser Ducati's Shane Byrne with his new exhaust component, while Tommy Bridewell rediscovered some lost pace in sixth on the Bennetts Suzuki.

Glenn Irwin made it three Ducati bikes inside the top seven ahead of John Hopkins' stand-in Broc Parkes who made it look like he'd never been away from BSB on the ePayMe Yamaha.

Birthday boy Dan Linfoot narrowly pipped James Ellison for ninth as BSB championship leader Leon Haslam was edged out of the top ten but remained ahead of Tyco BMW duo Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon, as Buildbase BMW pair of Richard Cooper and Lee Jackson completed the top 15.

With glorious sunshine bathing the Norfolk circuit the best FP1 times set in damp conditions were instantly smashed, while Honda's O'Halloran led the early running with a 1m 48.588s.

FP1 timesheet-topper Mossey grabbed back the fastest time at the midpoint of the afternoon session by moving one-tenth quicker, while Parkes, O'Halloran and Byrne impressed on longer stints.

But as the pace stepped up for the typical late blasts it was Honda's Australian rider who stormed ahead with an eventual 1m 48.212s but O'Halloran was made to sweat for the headlines after his late fall and Buchan's final lap gains.
