Luke Mossey has claimed an unexpected pole position at Brands Hatch after Shane Byrne lost out in Superpole while Jason O'Halloran crashed on his single flyer.

With the one shot format always threatening to create a mix-up in the front three rows, Byrne failed to repeat his lap record pace from free practice in Superpole and was unable to beat Mossey's 1m 25.383s which handed the Quattro Plant Kawasaki his second pole of the year.

Byrne wasn't the biggest loser in Superpole as penultimate rider to set his time O'Halloran crashed out in the final sector of his flyer which ended his charge.

Blasting into the third Superpole of the year, Tommy Bridewell had lead proceedings with his opener and despite initially being disappointed with his time as the riders rattled through the Bennetts Suzuki remained on the front row behind Mossey and Byrne.

With the shake-up continuing it saw ePayMe Yamaha's Broc Parkes head the front of the second row ahead of Glenn Irwin and Leon Haslam.

Buildbase BMW duo Lee Jackson and Richard Cooper saw their efforts place them on row three with the crashing O'Halloran completing the Superpole contenders.

Qualifying was briefly suspended in Q2 when Jakub Smrz's Smiths Racing BMW expired down Pilgrims Drop, which prompted a red flag to check if fluid had been dropped on track.

At the same time as the red flag, Mossey limped back to the pits after his throttle connection cut out on his Quattro Plant Kawasaki, while Dan Linfoot suffered a small off a Druids which ruled him out of the resumption.

At the cut-off for Superpole, James Ellison (10th) narrowly missed out after being pushed out by Mossey's final flyer while Showdown contenders Michael Laverty (11th) and Linfoot (16th) were also knocked out in Q2.

In Q1 Jake Dixon was the unlucky rider to narrowly miss the cut while three-time BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari will start from an underwhelming 24th.
