Jason O'Halloran feels his crash during Superpole and subsequent set-up changes on his Honda hampered his charge at Brands Hatch but was still satisfied to jump back on to the podium with third place in race two.

The Australian became the first rider to tip off during the new Superpole qualifying format which anchored him to ninth on the grid for race one.

Aiming to avoid the problem in the races, Honda made set-up adjustments to O'Halloran's CBR1000RR but he felt he couldn't completely reproduce his impressive free practice pace which denied him the chance of battling with Shane Byrne for wins.

“I think we had a strong free practice, consistently top three, but Superpole set us back,” O'Halloran said. “Crashing out of Superpole was disappointing because we could have been on for a front row start if not pole position and that would have changed our first race.

“I got a good start in race one but we made a slight change to the bike and couldn't brake how I had been braking all weekend and we had made the change because of the crash in Superpole. In hindsight maybe we shouldn't have made the change.

“I went back to the normal setting for race two and led most of it. It was disappointing not to win after leading for so long but still nice to get the podium credit.”

O'Halloran's healthy helping of championship points from a fourth and a third sees him strengthen his third spot in the overall BSB rider standings with one eye on the Showdown. The Honda rider now holds a 53-point advantage over James Ellison who is the nearest rider outside the top six.

The BSB race winner also felt the additional podium credit helped his cause and is confident he can battle with the leaders consistently after finding significant gains on the aging Honda Fireblade.

“It was a strong round for us and we are now consistently in the top three so it is all looking strong for the rest of the year,” he said.
