After a recent test at Cadwell Park saw Jason O'Halloran set his fastest-ever lap around the Lincolnshire circuit, the Honda Racing rider has the sole goal of confirming a place in the top six Showdown.
The Australian rider, who became the newest MCE British Superbike race winner back at round five at Snetterton, currently sits third in the riders' championship and has built up a 53-point gap between himself and the nearest contender outside the Showdown places which is Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Luke Mossey.
If O'Halloran can extend his points advantage over the seventh place rider by another 22 points by the end of the Cadwell Park round he will guarantee himself a Showdown spot before the triple-header finale of the regular season at Oulton Park.
“I am really looking forward to my home race, as Cadwell Park is the closest one to my home in the UK, it's also the team's home round, so it's special on two counts,” O'Halloran said. “It's a circuit I really enjoy riding at and I missed last year due to my injuries so I am ready to get back out there this weekend.
“The test there a few weeks ago was really positive and I set the fastest lap I have ever done around Cadwell – it's not the easiest place to go fast straight off, you have to get into it.
“I'm feeling really confident at the moment and we just have to keep the momentum going now. I'm third in the championship but we can't get complacent about this and need to score some more podium points and make sure we're in the Showdown. It's so close now with everyone, so we need to make sure we're strong this weekend.”
In the ultra-competitive battle for the top six spots, just 31 points separate Michael Laverty on the Tyco BMW in fourth and JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Peter Hickman in tenth, while Tommy Bridewell in 11th hasn't given up hope of sneaking into the top six over the final two rounds.
