Shane Byrne has maintained his spot at the top of the timesheet in FP3 by narrowly edging MCE British Superbike title rival Leon Haslam.

Quickest from FP1 Jason O'Halloran initially reasserted himself at the top of the times with a 1m 26.947s before tipping off for the second time this weekend at Mansfield.

Despite being given an authorised restart to enable the Australian to return to the Honda garage, O'Halloran failed to better his earlier effort to see him slip down the pecking order.

In the final five minutes the championship's top two commenced an intriguing battle by trading top times, with Byrne taking control with a 1m 26.664s. Haslam responded setting the fastest sector one and two times before hitting traffic in the final part of the lap.

Behind the top two Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Luke Mossey maintained his front-end fight in third with Bennetts Suzuki's Tommy Bridewell in close company as less than a quarter of a second split the top four.

Lee Jackson placed his Buildbase BMW fifth, ahead of O'Halloran, with JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison finding useful late gains to keep ahead of Richard Cooper as Christian Iddon and Jake Dixon rounded out the top ten.
