Shane Byrne says he felt his Be Wiser Ducati had greater potential to give at Cadwell Park but is satisfied with grabbing a front row start.

The MCE British Superbike championship leader has found relentless form at recent rounds, claiming four wins in the past five races and three of the last four pole positions, but was denied by title rival Leon Haslam in qualifying at the Lincolnshire circuit and will start race one from second on the grid.

Byrne, who topped the combined free practice timesheet, felt he could have found a lap time to trump Haslam's pole time and fastest-ever lap at the circuit but his charge was hamstrung by bike changes during qualifying.

"I thought I could have gone faster and I thought the Be Wiser Ducati and more left in the locker," Byrne said. "We had changed a few things on the bike during qualifying and in Q3 I pushed but the first lap wasn't perfect so I pushed again and it was about the same.

"The front row is so important around Cadwell Park so when I got it together on m third or fourth lap I was able to jump up to the front row. That is perfect for me and I'm very happy to be on the front row. It has been a good job by the Be Wiser Ducati team and we need a factory Kawasaki to go quicker for pole!"
