Leon Haslam says the set-up changes his JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad made to his bike between the races at Cadwell Park worked impeccably as he claimed his first MCE British Superbike win since Knockhill.
The former World Superbike rider has ended Byrne's winning run with victory in race two to claw back vital ground in the title race ahead of the Showdown.
After being beaten to victory on the last lap in race one, Haslam was able to dictate the pace in race two and preserve enough life in his tyre to pull away in a late race charge.
“We knew the bike had the pace and we knew we had to do something different in race two after missing out in the opener,” Haslam said. “Sometimes those plans don't work out too well but it managed to work out perfectly. I tried to slow the pace up when in front and save the tyre and managed to have good pace at the end.
“It is a big credit to the team as it has been a hard three or four rounds and Shakey has had a big gap on us. To beat him here and head to Oulton Park we want to finish the season hard.”
