Oulton Park: Linfoot not looking to become fixated by Showdown

Dan Linfoot says focusing on positive results in every session at Oulton Park will be his way to secure an MCE British Superbike Showdown spot rather than sweating over permutations.

The Honda Racing rider currently sits fifth in the BSB riders' standings and has a 12-point buffer between himself and the nearest challengers outside the top six, Luke Mossey and Richard Cooper, while James Ellison is in sixth five points back.

Despite conceding he'll be taking a cautious approach to the triple-header race weekend to ensure three finishes he wants to focus on his own goals of a minimum of top five results in each race.

Linfoot heads to a circuit he holds in high regards even though he was cruelly denied a maiden BSB win when the track hosted round two in May, with the Honda Racing rider slipping off on a drying track while leading.

“This is the weekend and the pressure is on,” Linfoot said. “I'm hoping for a confirmed Showdown spot as soon as possible. It's either three chances for podiums or three chances for something to go wrong; I am a little cautious heading into the weekend, as I can't afford for anything to go wrong.”

As a result, Linfoot is targeting a race-by-race approach and focus on his own goals rather than what his rivals are achieving and how that may impact on his Showdown hopes.

“I'm trying to think as much as I can about my targets and what I want to achieve from the weekend as it takes my mind off the Showdown a little, so I am not fixating so much on it,” he said. “We need to start the weekend well and qualify on the front two rows and finish each race.

“If we finish in the top-five in all races the Showdown will take care of itself – of course I will be pushing and I need the podium credits, but if it's not possible then three top-five finishes are OK.

“Oulton Park is a circuit I really enjoy and it's always been kind to me, well until I crashed out of the lead there earlier in the year!”
