The JG Speedfit Kawasaki trio of Leon Haslam, James Ellison and Peter Hickman have spoken of their pride in the team's achievement of a historic first 1-2-3 achievement in the MCE British Superbike championship.
Leon Haslam has claimed victory in race one of the triple-header at Oulton Park leading home team-mates Ellison and Hickman as the JG Speedfit Kawasaki riders locked out the podium places, the first time a team has taken every rostrum spot in a BSB race.
Reflecting on the feat each rider relished the historic race as Haslam slashes the podium points deficit to Shane Byrne while Ellison and Hickman have strengthened their challenge for the Showdown spots.
“A 1-2-3 for the team words just can't describe it. Another win, 1-2-3 and fastest lap you can't really get much better than that,” Haslam said. “To see that my team-mates are second and third is unbelievable. The team puts so much effort in so to repay them with this there is no better way.”
“The boys have done a fantastic job to give me a bike that I can race and be at the sharp end,” Ellison added. “So big thanks to the team and my sponsors so let's move on to the next two races to see what we can achieve.”
Hickman, who had to fend off a late charge from Jason O'Halloran to hold on to third place, was relived to complete the triple and return to the rostrum for the first time since his win at the opening round at Silverstone.
“It is massive to be a part of the JG Speedfit Kawasaki 1-2-3, the first in BSB history, it has been a brilliant weekend,” Hickman said. “The bike has been working really well and I knew the race pace was going to be good for us particularly towards the end so I just needed to keep my head.
“When Jason was coming close it put the pressure on massively knowing that the 1-2-3 was there but I managed it with no mistakes.”
