Shane Byrne is confident his Be Wiser Ducati squad can battle back strongly in the subsequent two races of the triple-header at Oulton Park with a few set-up changes after a difficult opener.

The MCE British Superbike championship leader suffered a hairy moment at Knickerbrook in the closing stages of race one when he recovered a high-side on the corner exit.

Looking to stabilise his Ducati Panigale R and scrub off speed Byrne ran into the gravel trap but was able to continue, albeit down in tenth place.

Recovering to ninth at the chequered flag Byrne - who had set the new fastest ever lap at Oulton Park with his pole position time earlier in the day - has faith he can respond in the final two races of the regular season to add to his podium credits tally ahead of the Showdown.

"We changed the bike in the final qualifying session with a different rear shock and stiffer rear spring," Byrne said. "For a fast lap it was mega and we had some thoughts about whether it would work over a race distance. I'm not saying the shock was the issue it just made the bike hard to manage when the tyre dropped off.

"We know what we need to do, we have about three-quarters worth of race data and we will go over it. I think a really small change will pay dividends and we should be in good shape."

Byrne, who has already secured his BSB Showdown spot, saw his podium points advantage trimmed to seven points as Leon Haslam claimed victory in the opener at the Cheshire track.
