Luke Mossey has been left awestruck by the 'best of my life' after securing a place in the MCE British Superbike championship Showdown just hours after becoming a father for the first time.

The Quattro Plant Kawasaki jumped into the top six places with second place in the final race of the regular season, pushing Tyco BMW's Michael Laverty out while also finishing ahead of Honda's Dan Linfoot in the riders' standings.

Despite entering the Showdown with the lowest number of podium points (six compared to leader Leon Haslam's 46) Mossey toasted his maiden Showdown appearance with the birth of his daughter Emie-Ann in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Best day of my life. Having a baby for the first time this morning and then making the Showdown this year I am speechless," Mossey said. "I have to give full credit to the team they've work so hard for me this year and it has paid off. Now we are in it we are not going to lift off we will be trying hard in these last three rounds going to tracks which really suit my style."

Having moved up to second after Jason O'Halloran pulled off with the technical issue in the last race Mossey knew the runner-up spot would guarantee him a Showdown place but did admit holding his position and nerve on an emotional day was a mentally-draining test.

"If I'm honest I was just thinking about my daughter [over the final laps]," he said. "It was hard to concentrate because I wanted to get the race over and done as quickly as I could so I can get home tonight.

"I got a bit teary on the cool down lap which isn't usually me. Getting into the Showdown was our aim for the whole year and we've been chipping away and working on it so massive thanks to the team."

I am still not sure about the showdown. the last few rounds of the championship will be fun to observe. Well pleased to see Jason O is in with a chance. Don't think the Honda is quite up to it against the competition. Go Shakey on the big Ducati !!!
