James Ellison says the gains JG Speedfit Kawasaki enjoyed from its Cadwell Park test helped book his MCE British Superbike championship Showdown spot thanks to two podiums at Oulton Park.

Ellison secured his third Showdown berth in four seasons at the end of race two of the triple-header with his second runner-up result at the Cheshire track. Looking to collect the final vital podium points in race three, the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider was denied a podium hat-trick and potentially a first win of 2016 after pulling out with a technical problem while leading.

Having battled with throttle connection issues Ellison has made significant improvements since the last round at Cadwell Park and at a private test after the race weekend.

"This weekend has really been one of highs and lows," Ellison said. "It started off really well and we were instantly fast, which is great as the improvements we made at the test last week have really paid off.

"Race one was awesome to be part of the first ever 1-2-3 on a podium and to be challenging for the win in the second race was really positive. Unfortunately, that final race we had to retire from the lead which is gutting as we could have got some valuable points back on Shakey.

"That said, it's been a great weekend and I'm looking forward to getting the Showdown started and fighting for the championship."

Ellison moves into the Showdown joint-third level with Honda's Jason O'Halloran having collected 13 podium points each, 30 points off Shane Byrne and 33 off of leader Leon Haslam.
