Shane Byrne says he is determined to return back to the top step of the rostrum immediately after missing out on any podium points at the Oulton Park triple-header to slip to second heading into the MCE British Superbike Showdown.

The Be Wiser Ducait rider blitzed qualifying with the fastest ever Superbike lap at the Cheshire circuit but failed to convert it into results in any of the races.

After saving a high side at the Hizzy chicance which pushed him wide in race one Byrne fell at the same corner in race two before struggling to replicate the pace of the front-runners having started on row four in the final race to eventually take fifth.

Coupled with Leon Haslam's hat-trick of wins at Oulton Park Byrne has been shuffled back to second as the Showdown takes effect but is only three points behind heading to Donington Park next weekend.

"It's been a difficult weekend and we've left without the results we wanted or deserved," Byrne said. "From setting the fastest ever lap yesterday to not scoring a race win or even a podium is disappointing but that's racing.

"Although I've surrendered a lot of podium points to Leon here I'm in the Showdown and now going to three tracks I love so I'll be going out all guns blazing to get back to winning ways."

Having booked his Showdown spot at the last round at Cadwell Park, Byrne has matched the record for most BSB Showdown appearances with six (2011-16) to draw level with Josh Brookes (2010-2015).
