Donington Park Grand Prix: Halsall Racing to split from Suzuki at end of 2016

Halsall Racing has confirmed it will split from Suzuki at the end of the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship after losing patience with its technical partnership.

Having switched to the Japanese manufacturer at the start of the 2015 season the Halsall Racing-run Bennetts Suzuki squad has struggled for consistency and results, with just two podiums over that period – both by Tommy Bridewell.

After the Wiltshire rider lost his shot at making the Showdown this season the Lancashire-based squad has opted to end its partnership with the Japanese manufacturer.

“We have certainly taken a great deal of positives from this season but it has not been without its challenges,” team owner and principal Martin Halsall said. “Challenges that I can only say have been hindered through our association with Suzuki.

“The manufacturer unveiled their new machine in November 2015 and their intention was to make that bike available to Halsall Racing sooner rather than later.

"The reality has been far from that and the delivery date has been continuously delayed throughout the year. The bike was presented to the public in 2015 yet it is still to make an appearance, despite repeated promises from Suzuki and that is far from acceptable.

“While we unfortunately missed out on a place in the Showdown, the team remains confident we can finish the 2016 campaign on a high with Tommy. He is very happy and we are hopeful his services can be retained next year.

“My planning for the new season must begin now so we can be competitive by the start of the 2017 campaign. Over the coming weeks I will be working to secure another manufacturer and a second rider in order for us to mount a serious title assault next year.”

Halsall's Bennetts Suzuki squad has already slimmed down to one entry for the remainder of the season after parting company with three-time BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari.
