Shane Byrne has tested out the tyre life on both the hard and soft compound options and is quietly confident ahead of the MCE British Superbike championship title decider.
The Be Wiser Ducati rider enters the final round triple-header with a 17-point advantage over Leon Haslam and has set the benchmark by topping Friday free practice with a 1m 25.523s – just two-tenths off the lap record.
Byrne also impressed on race simulation runs and says he experimented with both the soft and hard option tyres which gave him encouraging results in FP2.
“It has been a good first day here at Brands Hatch for us; we have done some work on the harder tyre and also on the soft,” Byrne said. “We have done a full on race run this afternoon which is full on for a Friday afternoon but the rhythm was really good so I am happy with the day's work.
“We are now looking forward to tomorrow and kicking off the first race of the weekend.”
Title rival Haslam ended the day fifth fastest overall, two-tenths off Byrne, as the top 15 riders were covered by less than a second in FP2 at Brands Hatch.
