James Ellison has set the standard to beat thanks to updates and improvements with his McAMS Yamaha package having set a new outright lap record at Brands Hatch Indy.

The British rider blitzed the times in FP1 with a 45.097s to break the previous outright lap record held by Shane Byrne of 45.112s from 2011, before backing up his outright pace by topping both free practice sessions at round two of the 2017 MCE British Superbike championship at Brands Hatch Indy.

Ellison says he's relished McAMS Yamaha's new swingarm and feels adjustments to his YZF-R1's set-up since the 2017 season opener at Donington Park have given him the consistency over a race distance.

"The Yamaha loves corner speed which suits my style, something that is a big positive for the Indy circuit," Ellison said. "I can brake where I want to and tip in where I want but we need to work on the time we are losing at Druids.

"It really helped us having the extra session here yesterday afternoon, but the times are coming down as everyone is pushing harder.

"The McAMS Yamaha can win races because we have found consistency since Donington Park. We have a new swingarm for this weekend and the whole team have been working flat out, so thank you to them for that - it has given myself and Michael Laverty a package to come out fighting with."
