Just one corner separated Cal Crutchlow from a better starting position for the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship after the title hopeful blamed his fifth place grid slot on the final corner.
Desperate for a pair of victories in order to keep himself in the title hunt, Crutchlow has featured amongst the frontrunners all weekend, but with dismal weather descending on the circuit before qualifying, the HM Plant Honda rider began to struggle.
The concentration of his troubles centred around the final hairpin, where Crutchlow claims to be losing too much time. Indeed, the two-time winner was frustrated to miss out on a front row grid slot, but is confident of better come the races.
“Although being on the front two rows is important, I'm disappointed not to continue our string of front row starts this year. That said, it was a close session and we learned a lot.
“Breaking things down, we're quick in the first sector, matching a lot of people in the second sector, but in the last sector with the hairpin we're struggling going in, going round and coming out of it! We're working on a few things now to sort it out, as I want two wins.”
