Ellison maintains giant-killing antics.

James Ellison continued to take the fight to the factory-backed riders in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship after scoring his third podium of the season at Knockhill.

A strong end to a weekend that threatened to disappoint after Ellison suffered a big accident in Friday practice, the Hydrex Bike Animal rider defied a lacklustre eighth place on the grid to get a fine start and run third early on.

Although he would drop behind Shane Byrne, Ellison still battled his way back onto the bottom step of the podium at the expense of Michael Rutter, the Honda rider going on to add to his rostrum finishes at Oulton Park,

"I'm well happy with the first race but again we maybe could have done better, but we had the pace and we showed that. I did the third fastest lap so we finished where we finished but I feel we could have done a bit more but I tried my hardest and that was all I could do.”

The second race was harder work for Ellison, the Cumbrian rider suffering at the start when his choice of tyres saw him slip off the line and drop outside the top ten. Nonetheless, with his choice of tyres beginning to pay dividends as the race progressed, Ellison made fine progress to move up to fifth when the race was red flagged.

Still, while Ellison was pleased with the result, he was frustrated that the race was ended too early for him to rise any higher.

“We ran with an intermediate front and a slick rear which was the right decision but it was a bit difficult off the line with it being wet but once we got into the race we were chipping away. I could see the riders in front getting closer every lap so if we had more laps I could have maybe got higher up.

“The team has done a mega job this weekend especially with me crashing on Friday, they turned the bike around and I enjoyed riding it and I'm happy to come away in one piece with more points and a trophy."
