Rutter, Ellison close in on Camier.

Leon Camier is under pressure from Michael Rutter and James Ellison for his current fifth position in the 2008 British Superbike standings after a 'tough weekend' at Knockhill.

The Airwaves Ducati rider, whose title leading team-mate Shane Byrne brought race two to a premature conclusion after a heavy fall from the lead, collected fifth and eighth place finishes after a slow start to the half wet/half dry opening race and grip problems during the fast-drying second outing.

"At the start of race one the conditions were tricky so I started off pretty steady to avoid making any mistakes," said Leon. "Once I felt more comfortable, the lap times started coming down and I was actually quicker than the leaders over the final ten laps of the race. Unfortunately after losing so much time at the start I couldn't finish higher than fifth.

"I was feeling really confident going into the second race as I knew I had the pace to be fighting up the front but we made the wrong tyre choice for the re-started race and I just didn't have enough grip.

"It's been a tough weekend. A fifth and an eighth isn't what I had hoped for but at the end of the day we've secured some decent championship points and made up some ground on those ahead of me," he added.

However, fellow 1098 rider Rutter and Honda mounted Ellison - who scored a podium each on Sunday - are now within five points of Camier in the championship standings.

Camier is doing o.k. He stayed on in terrible conditions under a lot of pressure. Give DEan Ellison a ride on a bike that doesnt have constant mechanical failures (i.e.) 2007 and 2008 2006

I still rate Camier as the biggest potential in bsb at the moment(125 and supersport titles, podiums on twin and 4cyl bsb inc a win) if it wasnt for his crash last year he would have been up there with shakey, if shakey goes to wsbk next year and gse stay in bsb then ellison is the obvious choice to replace him
