Burns heads Q1 casualties.

The first knockout qualifying session for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship has finished with no surprise names being eliminated from the remaining two segments.

With only the top 20 riders going through to fight on, the eight slowest competitors dropping out of contention were six Daily Star Cup contenders and two tail-ending Championship class runners.

Just missing the cut was Chris Burns, who lost out on a spot in the top twenty by just two hundredths of a second, Tom Tunstall, Shannon Etheridge, Dean Ellison, Kenny Gilbertson, Aaron Zanotti, Michael Howarth and Leon Morris, the latter also causing a ten minute red flag after crashing at Barn.

Meanwhile, there is confusion as to whether the injured James Ellison will take part for the remainder of the weekend after confirming he was going to withdraw midway through qualifying. However, after later emerging back on the bike a few minutes later, it seems he may now attempt to secure a top ten starting spot.

Cal Crutchlow led the way at the front of the field but all times will be deleted now as they go on to Q2 to decide positions 11 to 20 now.
