Tom Sykes has hailed his Rizla Suzuki team for 'turning the boat around' as he wrote the latest chapter of his rise to prominence with pole position in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.

Recording his second pole position of the season, it comes after he recorded his first top spot of the year at Mallory Park, a landmark that was promptly followed by victories at Oulton Park and Knockhill.

Now Sykes can call himself the first pole sitter using the new knockout qualifying system to set him up well for a pair of victories around the Lincolnshire circuit tomorrow.

"I'm on pole position and I am feeling confident," he told Radio. "It'd be good to get a strong start and go from there, but everyone has kept me on my toes and I've had to dig deep, but I am looking forward to tomorrow. I'll try and get my head down though and do what we did at Oulton Park and Knockhill.

Visibly brimming with confidence, Sykes has put much of his form down to the Rizla Suzuki team that he believes have worked especially hard to turn their season around after a tough start to the year.

"Fair play to the Rizla Suzuki team for changing a couple of things and allowing me to improve my times because not only are we improving them, we are more consistent too," he added.

"Things have come together. We started off a bit steady with some misfortune but I am confident in what I can do and the team has been fantastic. Jack (Valentine) and everyone in the team has turned the boat around because this season is now going to plan. We've never been off the pace but we've found a couple of settings and everything has clicked.

Meanwhile, Sykes' future prospects suffered a bit of a scare when he came off his bike in the closing stages of qualifying. Luckily for him, the chance of mini Tom Sykes' further down the line remains intact...

"We had a bit of tumble towards the end, although it was barely worth mentioning. I had to lay the bike down before I hit the tyre wall, otherwise I'd probably spoil my chances of fatherhood...!
