Camier: I was hoping to do better.

Leon Camier was satisfied with fifth position on the grid in qualifying for the latest Bennetts British Superbike round at Cadwell Park, although he is confident that he is well placed to progress up the order in the races.

Camier has been on the fringes of the top four throughout the weekend but has not been able to break into the Sykes-HM Plant-Byrne deadlock at the front of the field.

Nonetheless, the 21-year-old is confident that he has a bike that will come good in the closing stages of the races and is looking for a pair of podium finishes at worst.

“Fifth isn't too bad,” he told Crash.net Radio. “I was thinking ahead of the last part of qualifying that maybe I could do better than top five, but everyone just went a chunk quicker. If we can find a couple more tenths and be able to consistently do it, then we should be in a good situation.

“The Ducati is good over a race distance and I think the way we have our bike set-up well, so the plan is just to hang in there at the beginning and then maybe move up towards the end of the race.”

Returning to the scene of his terrible accident last year, one that put him out of action for the remainder of the season, Camier admits there was a little apprehension over the Mountain on Friday, but he is refusing to dwell on it.

“It wasn't too bad. It is awkward at the best of times and riding the Ducati over it for the first time was certainly different. The whole track is different when you are riding a Ducati but the team have done a fantastic job and although I am losing a little bit of time over the Mountain, hopefully in the race we should be in a good position.”
