Australian Supersport Champion Jason O'Halloran is to join the British Superbike grid for the final three rounds of the season after concluding a deal with SMT Honda.

The SMT crew have been beset by woes this season after original rider Adam Jenkinson was badly injured back at Thruxton, while replacement rider Tom Grant is now out for the remainder of the year following his spectacular accident Knockhill when he was hit by David Johnson's rider-less bike.

Nonetheless, the team have unveiled some much needed good news following the signing of promising 20-year-old O'Halloran, who joined a long list of respected names in 2007 by becoming the Australian Supersport Champion.

From Wollongong - the same home town of Troy Corser - O'Halloran has also competed in the World Supersport Championship, deputising for injured countryman Kevin Curtain at Brno last year and finishing a fine 12th.

Currently, O'Halloran is racing in the Australian Superbike Championship with the Teknic Honda team and is fifth in the standings with two rounds remaining. He also joined forces with Cal Crutchlow recently to claim sixth in the Suzuka 8 Hours on the Moriwaki Honda.

For team owner Robin Croft, O'Halloran is a very worthy substitute for Jenkinson and Grant and while he will embark on a very steep learning curve at Croft, Silverstone and Brands Hatch, he is confident he will conduct himself well.

"When it became clear that neither Adam or Tom would be fit to participate in the final three rounds we began to look at our options and I'm delighted to be able to secure the services of Jason. His track record speaks for itself and it's clear he's an immensely talented rider so we're eagerly looking forward to his arrival."

"He's keen to further his career on the International stage and whilst he's obviously got three new circuits to learn, he's got plenty of experience on the CBR1000RR Honda Fireblade and has been putting in some great rides in the Australian Superbike Championship this season. It will be a new experience for him but we're confident that we can give him the package to shine."
