Rizla Suzuki have set their sights on second place in the Bennetts British Superbike standings as they ready themselves for the penultimate round of the season at Silverstone.

Having lost the provisional runners-up spot to Leon Haslam at Croft, both Tom Sykes and the Rizla team are eager to reverse that around the Northamptonshire circuit.

Indeed, team principal Jack Valentine is confident they have now adapted the Suzuki to shine around both high and low-speed circuits and with Silverstone featuring elements of both, he believes Sykes will lift them back up to where they were before the weekend is out.

"The season is almost at a close now and Rizla Suzuki is determined to go out with a bang," he said. "Since Tom's double win at Oulton Park our fortunes have changed and we have shown what we are capable of as a team.

"Silverstone suits both Tom and his Rizla Suzuki, we have the speed for the fast sections and the agility for the slow tight turns. Another double win would go a long way to regaining and consolidating second place in the Championship chase."

Sykes' team-mate, Atsushi Watanabe, meanwhile, insists we haven't seen the best from him yet, despite his results being on a steady trajectory recently. Nonetheless, Valentine is sure he can produce a positive performance at Silverstone having tested there before.

"Atsu is looking forward to Silverstone and I believe it is a circuit which will suit him. He needs to make the step up to the next level which is battling for fifth to eight place. BSB has a huge depth of field with a lot of capable and aggressive riders. Atsu needs to play them at their own game in order to progress. I think he will pull something out of the bag this weekend for sure."
