Leon Haslam set a scintillating pace in final free practice before qualifying in the latest Bennetts British Superbike round at Silverstone.

Having topped the timesheets at the end of yesterday, Haslam was again on fine form as he produced the first lap to dip below the 1min 26secs mark this weekend. That was enough for him to beat his closest competitor, Shane Byrne, by a clear seven tenths as the riders now look ahead to qualifying this afternoon.

Behind Byrne was Haslam's team-mate Cal Crutchlow, with Tom Sykes and Leon Camier's fourth and fifth ensuring the top five in the championship filled their positions.

Michael Laverty assumed 'best of the rest' status in sixth as he continues to impress this weekend, while Karl Harris, who initially set the pace in the early stages, ended up in seventh.

Michael Rutter moved up inside the top ten to eighth, ahead of this weekend's biggest surprises, Gary Mason and Jason O'Halloran, in ninth and tenth.

Qualifying will start at 14.40, with the pole position deciding Q3 qualifying segment starting at 15.34.
