James Ellison prevented Kawasaki from having a single representative in the top ten deciding qualifying segment after a last gasp effort from the Hydrex rider.

Ellison was forced to sit out the majority of the session after encountering a problem towards the end of Q1, but he was out on track in the final five minutes to put in a lap good enough for tenth.

His joy would be disappointment for Stuart Easton, who ran inside the top ten for much of the session before being edged at the final time of asking. It was a disappointing session for 'Team Green' altogether, with Scott Smart left in 12th and Billy McConnell in 14th.

Simon Andrews was also a surprise loser in 13th, while Jason O'Halloran will be disappointed with 15th having run inside the top ten during free practice.

Tristan Palmer, Atsushi Watanabe, David Johnson, Peter Hickman and Martin Jessopp made up the remainder of the order down to 20th.

All the usual pretenders reached the top ten, although Gary Mason's comfortable qualification continues to catch the eye.
