Shane Byrne showed again why he is the runaway winner of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship after a stirring double victory in the final round of the season at Brands Hatch.

While the two races couldn't have been any more different, both ended up in victory for 'Shakey', with the two triumphs helping him reach a dizzying total of ten wins and 21 podiums over 24 races.

Ending the season with a huge 117 point advantage over Leon Haslam, Byrne was delighted to complete his time in the British series with a double win at his home event.

"We are cruising this weekend," he told Crash.net after the first race. "The bike has been working fantastically this weekend and I want to thank the team for giving me a bike capable of running those sort of times in a race. I got a bit anxious towards the end, but I led from start to finish so I couldn't be happier.

"I feel like I have said it a thousand times, but this is my home circuit and I love it; I love the track and the fans here. It is also the home circuit for the Airwaves Ducati team as well so I am really pleased to win here."

Although the first race was relatively processional, Byrne completed victory in style during the second event when he caught and passed Haslam on the very final lap to complete a fitting tribute to the GSE Racing team.

"I really don't know what to say, that was one of my best races this year and all credit to Leon Haslam in that race as he did a fantastic job. I was running at a good pace and I knew I just had to close on Leon and I tried to make a pass at Paddock Hill and he just held the line and I couldn't get through.

"I was lucky with a backmarker and had the better line and was able to use it to my advantage. I just want to thank everyone at GSE and Airwaves Ducati for everything this season. It was a great way to end the season and say good-bye to BSB for a while."
