Jake Dixon says the change in personnel in the RAF Reserves Kawasaki garage and the recruitment of Glen Richards as his crew chief powered his push into the MCE British Superbike Showdown after stealing the final spot at Silverstone.

Dixon was the only BSB Showdown contender to finish the crazy final race in torrential rain at the Northamptonshire circuit having started the last race level on regular season points and Podium Points with Luke Mossey to set up an all-or-nothing battle.

With others faltering around him the RAF Reserves Kawasaki rider has secured his place in the Showdown and leapfrogged into fourth in the riders’ championship with just 14 points separating him from title leader Shane Byrne.

After scoring just 16 points over the opening three rounds of the year the 21-year-old’s chance of a Showdown spot looked almost impossible but a mid-season switch of team members, led by the recruitment of Richards, ignited a charge which has seen him become a title contender for the three-round finale.

An emotional Dixon, who has also wildcarded in World Superbike and Moto2 this year, credits former British Supersport and Superstock title-winner Richards for guiding his charge up the BSB order and is focused on giving his all in his maiden Showdown appearance.

“The plan is to give everything, as I do at every round, I won’t be holding anything back,” Dixon said. “This weekend I felt the nerves were on as I wanted to make it in and I think in Sunday's race one I was tense so it wasn’t working too well. But all weekend we’ve been fast and in qualifying it worked well but the first race today we struggled a bit.

“When we changed from BMW to Kawasaki at the beginning of the year it was definitely tough and took its toll as we weren’t getting the results we needed. We had to draft Glen Richards in to be my new crew chief and a few other boys on the mechanics side. From when Glen came on board it all seemed to click.

“At Knockhill when I did the double I’ve never really stepped off of the podium so if I can keep moving forward in this motion it should be good so I will try to take the fight to all of them.”
