Danny Buchan will make a return to the MCE British Superbike championship at Assen this weekend as stand-in for the injured Billy McConnell at Quattro Plant FS-3 Kawasaki.

Buchan currently leads the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 championship ahead of Richard Cooper, who will also step up to the Superbike class at Assen, but with their title fight put on hold until Brands Hatch Buchan will race in place of the injured McConnell.

Before this season Buchan spent the past two campaigns in BSB until his switch back to the Superstock 1000 class and aims to use the opportunity to prepare for the title-decider at Brands Hatch next month.

“I am excited to get this opportunity as I didn’t get to ride at Assen last year and it is one of the races I had looked forward to the most,” Buchan said. “I have to thank my Morello Racing team for letting me join Quattro Plant FS-3 Kawasaki for the weekend and I have no real expectations. I am going to Assen to fill in for Billy and do the best job I can for the team.

“It will be a great experience for me as I really didn’t want to watch the Assen round from the sofa. I am looking forward to getting my eye in and get back on a Superbike, especially as it is a Kawasaki so it shouldn’t be such a big transition.

“I know what to expect and I am looking forward to mixing it again with the boys as there is no better prep for the final round of the Superstocks at Brands Hatch than that.”

If I was leading a chamionship, I'm not sure I'd be taking this risk. That Assen is always 50-50 for being a near wash-out, it's poor management to let these guys have an away-day that counts for nothing.

With regards to the Cooper ride, the only thing that might be acheived is that he shows up Guintoli and Mackenzie, which won't do anything for the Bennetts camp.
