Peter Hickman feels finishing fourth in the MCE British Superbike championship at the end of 2017 is a feat he and Smiths Racing BMW can be proud of after a phenomenally consistent season.

Hickman has easily been the most constant points-scorer in BSB with only one DNF in 26 races, in the disastrously wet race three at Silverstone where only seven riders reached the chequered flag, while his lowest points finish has been in ninth place to cement his place at the sharp-end of the grid.

That consistency fuelled his charge into the BSB Showdown for the first time in his career before ending the year fourth overall to mark his best-ever campaign having won the Riders’ Cup in 2016.

Coupled with five podiums at this year’s Isle of Man TT, a win and lap record at the Ulster Grand Prix and the defence of his Macau Grand Prix title to come, Hickman toasted an impressive campaign with Smiths Racing BMW.

“I’ve finished every race bar one, have never been lower than ninth and to finish fourth overall behind three world class riders is a good achievement,” Hickman said. “We were the top BMW team and everyone at Smiths Racing has been fantastic all year so a massive thanks to everyone.”

Why tyco haven't signed him up instead of I only go fast at contract time laverty I'll never know Peter would be an ideal fit for tyco with his short circuit and roads skills. Disappointing
