Laverty squares it with Hill in race two

12 September 2010

Michael Laverty has surged up to second position in the British Superbike Championship standings after fighting his way to a second-career victory at Croft.

Having lost out to Tommy Hill during the first encounter, Laverty got his own back with spirited fight back when his rival stormed ahead with only four laps remaining.

Indeed, Laverty had led for the majority of the race when he was overtaken by Hill, who was bottled up behind Stuart Easton early on, but refused to give up and was back ahead on the penultimate lap. Holding firm to the chequered flag, it marks Laverty's second win following his maiden triumph at Oulton Park.

Capping a superb day for both Hill and Laverty, the former has moved onto 570 points, while Laverty is now second with 554 points.

Stuart Easton completed his second podium finish of the day to move up to seventh overall – the highest he can finish having been unable to break into the title shootout -, while Ryuichi Kiyonari put a poor start behind him to battle his way up to an eventual fourth place.

Michael Rutter rounded out the top five, ahead of Honda trio James Ellison, Tommy Bridewell and Josh Brookes, the title contender completing his lacklustre day in eighth. Dan Linfoot and Simon Andrews rounded out the top ten.

A fairly uneventful race, Loris Baz was the only big casualty after crashing on lap ten, while Hudson Kennaugh won his second Evo race of the day in 17th overall.
