Byrne wins, Rea leads

22 July 2007

The former British Superbike Champion has been hunting down a win for some time now and was thrilled to have clinched one at last.

He beat Jonathan Rea on the HM Plant Honda into second place and Leon Haslam on the Airwaves Ducati claimed third place.

Rea's team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari crashed at Edwina's chicane, he did remount but was black flagged as his bike was damaged and the belly pan was dragging. With Rea on the podium and Kiyo crashing out the title lead now belongs to Rea.

Chris Walker on the Rizla Suzuki had been running in second place early on but dropped back to finish in fourth place. Gregorio Lavilla who is still nursing damaged ribs from his crash at Oulton Park put in a gritty ride to finish fifth.

Top rookie Tom Sykes finished in sixth place ahead of young gun Tommy Hill on the Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha. Leon Camier who crashed during final free practice was eighth on his Bike Animal Honda.

Cal Crutchlow on the second Rizla bike was in ninth and Scott Smart completed the top ten on his Hawk Colchester Kawasaki.
